This injustice

Inflicted by man on its own kind

It awakens compassion

The will to struggle

Yet in a small nook of this mind

Lingers a thought

It wishes it had never known

That memory could forget

That it never took root

That pain from seeing pain ends

On that, heart takes command

It shakes the mind

Tells it to be quiet

‘I will think now’

‘You go to rest for now’

And so I surrender to its will
